It was filled with jam-packed actions - from home, work, study, spiritual life - all aspects of our lives were challenged in one way or another.

The stress pre-WYD, the WYD hype and the work post-WYD have taken over the churches across Australia by storm. The ever growing need of refining and justifying religious views will only grow stronger as 2009 proceeds.

Changes in tides were seen in the political arena, most noticably the US election) and the global economy. Let us pray that our social leaders can make the rightful choices.

Work has always been a challenge and the fight for the status of pharmacists will continues given the lack of understanding in the newer generations and the emergence of supermarket and discount pharmacies.

Study, ah, what can I can. It has been a filfuling year and will be a challenging year ahead.

I wish everyone a happy new year and may we all begin the year with faith, hope and love.

A disgrace

I was intending to write about my story at the Alice and the Rock. But no, this article seems to capture my mind at the moment. After deleting and picking the 100+ emails to read and catch up on....I got to the Catholic News and this article on this nutty priest with his nutty theory

http://www.cathnews.com/article.aspx?aeid=9772

From this, I see strong evidence (not conclusive proves) that we have 3 crazy priests. Amongst the many reasons some you would notice at first glance: -
1. They either don't read or they fail to understand the Bible in its context
2. They have not learnt or understand CCC (Catholic Catechism)
3. Further, they don't know Christianity or have a view DIFFERENT to Christianity, let alone the Catholic branch of Christianity
4. It never bothered them that they are saying vows to a religion which has different views to them

No wonder people think Catholics are crazy. Even I think these priests are.

Am I damaging my own religion? No. Rather, it is our duty to look after our Church and make sure we don't confuse those who are ALREADY confuse about God and life itself. Someone has to be responsible for taking care of the conducts and obviously it won't be those outside the Church because that's just stupid.

Pneumonia

People says Sydney's pneumonia has been 'exotic' because of WYD. Several points I don't understand:

WYD was in July. It's now October...does it means in between there are thousands of carriers who are just super strong? Whether viral or bacterial...it's amazing to see the 'new' viruses only came about now...

Note that Olympics was in Beijing after WYD...making that the world events closest to now...

If it's from WYD then why are so many no-church goers sick? Even more amazing so many more event organisers and those with close contacts with the pilgrims aren't sick?

IF it is from WYD, which is plausible as with Sydney Olympics 2000, does it means our city is incapble of holding such event - that 1. we are underdeveloped for it, 2. we are unprepared for it, 3. we just like to bitch about everything.

IF it is from WYD, then is the Pope sick?

Contact lens vs Futsal

First time in my life I got hit by a football (round soccer ball ones) face on at close range. And luckily I was wearing contacts - or was it?

At the moment of contact I thought, would I get a bruise? 0.5 sec later I thought, gee my contacts felt funny like it went flat and curved back into my eye. 0.5 sec later I thought, gee my eyes are getting very watery and I can feel my contacts being 'washed' from my eyes! 1 sec later I realise there's no way I can open my eyes cos tears with just streams out with my contacts!!!

And so, being a girl, I naturally didn't open my eyes and just stood there - assuming the game has stopped. Clearly it didn't because it was like 5 sec before I feel I was save to walk off the court half-blind!!!!

So there....

In the end, moral of the story Yet people seems to be in shock. Sure, maybe the scale is big, but that too we have been warned.

We were born with nothing. So what we have now is more than what we had before. And surely what we have now we do not take with us. I did not move an inch... an overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as I turned to see why they had moved.

As I turned around I smelled a horrible 'dirty body' smell, and there standing behind me were two poor homeless men. As I looked down at the short gentleman, close to me, he was 'smiling'.His beautiful sky blue eyes were full of God's Light as he searched for acceptance. He said, 'Good day' as he counted the few coins he had been clutching..

The second man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his friend. I realized the second man was mentally challenged and the blue-eyed gentleman was his salvation. I held my tears as I stood there with them. The young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted. He said, 'Coffee is all Miss' because that was all they could afford. (If they wanted to sit in the restaurant and warm up, they had to buy something. He just wanted to be warm).

Then I really felt it - the compulsion was so great I almost reached out and embraced the little man with the blue eyes. That is when I noticed all eyes in the restaurant were set on me, judging my every action. I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me two more breakfast meals on a separate tray.

I then walked around the corner to the table that the men had chosen as a resting spot. I put the tray on the table and laid my hand on the blue-eyed gentleman's cold hand. He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, 'Thank you.' I leaned over, began to pat his hand and said, 'I did not do this for you.. God is here working through me to give you hope.'

I started to cry as I walked away to join my husband and son. When I sat down my husband smiled at me and said, 'That is why God gave you to me, Honey, to give me hope.'
We held hands for a moment and at that time, we knew that only because of the Grace that we had been given were we able to give.

...Ok the story is another 10 paragraphs but I'll stop here. Please, PLEASE...if you are really doing God's work, wouldn't you do it in silent and without any boasting of your friendliest? Even sinners know how to do be good for rewards.

In reality, this RARELY happens. Please, PLEASE don't randomly give free money to strangers who LOOKS poor. You yourself may probably be poorer than them - both in spirit and in financial needs! I have seen many times when these people who YOU perceived as poor getting extremely piss off and annoy at the 'saviour' who gave them money. 1. They feel piss off they you look 'down' onto them. 2. They feel that you are making them look 'poor'. 3. Most importantly, they feel you think they can't afford their own goods.

Seriously, THINK before you act. Stop before an angel by doing this. As a tribute, let's review and think...

With the growing technology and communication tools available to the general public, the social skills needed and acquired by the next generations will inevitably change. Our parents grew up in the world where the only way of distance communication is through post. Patience and trust is the key. They grew up, invented and learnt to use telecommunication. For them, mailing has become a daily routine and catching up merely requires a ring to their friends' home phone. This is all going to change in our generation.

We grew up using telephone to call up friends for a sleepover or birthday party. We mail our Christmas cards. If we are late, we call each other with the public phones. As I grow up, I discovered emailing, had the privilege (yes, a privilege) to own a mobile, and calling for updating my whereabouts became a routine with the lowering cost of telecommunication. Home page? I have one. But back then it was a space for us to express and contribute our ideas, our intelligence, to the world.

Now there is Facebook, blogs, home pages about ourselves. Gone were the days of 'real' Christmas cards, stamp collecting, catching up with friends. Who needs to catch up with friends when I can sit at home to do it? Who needs to speak when they can type? Who needs to write and learn how to spell when there's a Spellchecker which AUTO-CORRECTS me? Who DOESN'T have a mobile? Who needs a public phone? Writing a letter...what's the format again? Stamps collecting? I don't get any stamps!

Will our society be reduced to a lack of language (or at least a poorer level) because of our 'advancement' in our telecommunication? Will we stop hanging out just for a coffee because it cost us time and more energy to do so then chatting online? I hope not.

So far, to me, it has increased my bonding with those who are overseas. First, I grew up writing letters and have to wait for a month to get a reply (if they reply straight away!). Then I was able to call overseas but we all have to gather together in one sitting and speak fluently so that we are not wasting the precious time and money for the call. Now, just an email. That's 20 years in the making. What would the next 20 be?

Gen X or Y

I'm confused. Here are some thoughts:

Despite my ABSOLUTE negativities towards St John prior to the event, due to their disorganisation and 'not-wanting' me, I surprisingly enjoyed my duties there. It was probably because I was with the 'grass-root' people (as Gasper put it). It's amazing to see so many different divisions, all very friendly, working together. Of course there's always the odd one, the lazy cadets, the confusions with shift changes with the lock-down...but overall I enjoyed it.

Caritas - it was fun and I met fun people there. Learnt how to upload videos onto You Tube. Oh and there's a video of me...

The pilgrim food was not bad. Volunteer's food were better!

I was surprised with the number of Catholics amongst the volunteers. And even more surprising is the numerous volunteers from overseas! I'm thinking to volunteer for Madrid!!!

I loved the flags and the different people gathered together as one community...

I loved meeting randomly old friends...like from 10 years ago when I first started Antioch or my lost high school friends!

It was interesting to see the anti-pope people were getting ambush by the flood of pilgrims at the pilgrim walks and they look so lost - like lost sheep in the crowd!

I think I started on a high on Monday night with meeting the pilgrims at church, playing football/soccer with them - S Africans are amazing! Then Tuesday seeing the massive number of people in Barangaroo and the flags. Then the first aid duties and chatting with police/ambos/securities....such a good atmosphere. But then I think I was bit over with the "Free Hugs" - seriously, get over it! (There were way too many), the people just trying to chat up to others, people pushing in and walking over sleeping bags/people, people eating and chatting DURING mass (seriously, even non-Catholics knows better)....

Many more thoughts and comments. But let's not get carry away by personal opinions. The important part for all of us is that we all receive the Holy Spirit, renewed our friendship with Jesus, opened our eyes and minds to God and remembering how to live a life - not just existing.

WYD update

Having an AWESOME TIME at WYD with Caritas, St John and as a pilgrim.

Tonight is a short break before all the big events coming up...more to update soon.

A few thoughts on WYD septics

Can you imagine if the final mass is at Olympic park? Here's a few thoughts:

Petrol is derived from a finite source. We learnt this since primary school, if not high school. And if there's a limit, then it's either first in first serve or highest bidder gets it. Since Australia is not THAT close to petrol sources....what DID you expect?

Price of a product is adjusted with demand and inflation. If you want the economy to go up and if you want to be more mobile around such a large population and land - what DID you expect?

Why do you still drive around to the closest parking space? Why do you still leave your car engine on for no reasons but to show off your sound system (and cause deafness)?

Petrol is not the most important thing - at least rice comes before that. And rice shortage is ALSO happening!

Annoyance and expressing the annoyance will just spread this infectious behaviour around. Stop being the cause of hatred in this society. Just wait for your turn in the petrol station. It's not like you'll get shot by waiting.

I've always gone to get petrol on Tuesday night or whichever night cheapest for the last 3-4 years. Why have only people begin to do this now? It's not saving money these days since what you save you literally have burned up by waiting in line...

Because of these minorities life's happiness is slowly being drained away.

Dentist, volunteer work, work, and more

Today I went to dentist again, and so peaceful that I thought I was going to fall asleep. Just life in general is crazy and out of control - and you know I like to be in control.

But I'm very grateful for the all people I have contact with - of course there are doctors and customers I don't want to deal with, but without them I won't rise to the bigger challenges in future either.

Anyway, very excited about WYD - don't know why...I was actually one of those negative persons before, but now it's all coming together....

I defied the odds

Who says you can't play guitar with nails? It made Easter more meaningful. I was able to spend a day with just the church, my guitar and my bible. Simple but enough. It turned me around, from viewing the days before as being traumatic life experiences, to events of blessings. Blessings that it has occurred to me now and not other times, that it has occurred to me and not someone else who could not have withstand the pressure. It has been a blessing that God trusted me enough to pass this current without fail.

This Easter has been meaningful not because it had been a great weekend, but because I see greatness and hope amongst the death and scars on Earth. Salvation is here. But salvation is more than accepting and taking it once and for all. It would be if we are never to sin again, as that means we would never grow weary and we would become good and faithful servant. No. We are not. And so we continually need the re-presentation of His Passion and by expectant faith we pray to grow stronger and deeper in our relationship with Christ.

People often surprise that I'm going to church at all, and more than an hour a week. I never had an answer except to say, that is the way I have become. But it strike me tonight - when I am at His House, I am home. So why wouldn't I long to be home more often? If I'm so 'busy' to go back home then I may as well say I'm too busy to go back to God. In the end, I may as well as I'm too busy to go to Heaven.

Medical Certificate?

Due to the Howard government of obsessive use of medical certificates, registered pharmacists now have to suffer from getting a new type of angry customers.

However I wonder how we can give these out since we can only issue a medical certificate if it is within our area of competency and professional expertise. We dispense drugs, drugs which are prescribed by a DOCTOR. We sell over-the-counter products, for MINOR symptoms (considering if they can walk to us they are fitter than many people already!)

Should I put my registration and my life onto writing a medical certificate?

We are not obliged to issue one. I never do because it never works. Every year what I have become always deviated from the path I intended to take or the vision I have at the beginning of the year. Almost always I became a better person - a person who may have took some silly turns and learn things the hard way but nonetheless I was equipped with all the necessary lessons I need to have.

In that sense, if a list is to be made, it is more practical to compile a list of learning opportunities and room of improvements for this year. Work and study are means for economical sustainability and continual education, thus both are compulsory in my life this year. This leaves 8 "courses" to be filled by my own personal preferences.

Some of the ideas tossed around amongst friends (some for them and some for me) include learn a musical instrument, driving a manual car, improve on your physical levels, master a craft, manage your own wealth with investments, explore your faith or discover spirituality, and most importantly, learn to be a better person. An outreaching person who has self-control, patience, gentleness, kindness, honesty, compassion and many more qualities which exhibit a loving and charitable character.

In Colossians 3:12-14

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Australia Day and Heath Ledger

Today is Australia Day. She demanded (yes) to the front register 'give me 2 hydrozole'. Of course, then she was like why does she needs to talk to a pharmacist and why she can't get two etc etc. Today, a bit smarter but at the same time still the same annoying person, she demanded 2 hydrozole. I only began (yes only opened my mouth) and then she started abusing me, saying why am I asking her so many questions (which was like zero since she erupted with words already). Then she was like 'are you going to give me 2 or what?'

Irony 1: 2 packs of hydrozole = 60g. That's more than the 50g Hydrozole pack which is prescription only medicine.

Irony 2: Why can't she buy Canestan and Dermaid 0.5% which she can find herself???

Irony 3: Clearly if she knows what she's doing, she's trying to get herself chronic skin infections.

Irony 4: There are 4 pharmacies on the SAME street. Why be so abusive?

Irony 5: The day I cause stress onto someone I'll blame her. The day fungal infections became resistant to the azoles I'll blame her. But of course she will never understand.

Irony 6: If I don't give to her I comply with my code of conduct and the law. But I'll have a mental breakdown with her abuse and her complaints. If I give to her, it's all ok like she 'thinks' but I break the law. If anything happens I lose. Either way, I lose. Why be a pharmacist?

Irony 7: Perhaps the most worrying, her aussie partner who was closer to the counter, did not look up to either of us nor made a single sound (to the point where I thought he stopped breathing). Feminism. It's gotta stop!

The End and Beginning 07-08

One year has ended and the next has started...just like the day after yesterday. Yet, if I think of the time in another way, that a year has just pass, I would say that was quick! It's been a week since I'm back to Aus and pretty much adjusted back now. Yes, the early mornings, the traffic, the people, the expensive food and goods, the even more expensive petrol...

This last week and a half has been a long time it seems. It's like I am almost bending time. Been to KLCC, Meleka...more shopping and eating...etc etc...

A few things so far:
- Contray to everyone's believe about their bad driving skills, Malaysians aren't that bad. They are just crazy - but NO car accidents or honkings! It's like they know how everyone drives, unlike in Australia where we don't give way because we don't like people's stupid driving skills. In conclusion (thus far), Malaysians driving is crazy, Hong Kong is too congested to be crazy, Australians are stupid (those who have crashes), and in China - just plain crazy AND stupid. Hence car crashes every hour.

- they have all these 24 hours KFCs and Maccas....don't even see that in HK!

- Weather. Contray to what people think, it's not that bad! I love summer all-year-round! And unlike Australia, no flies or mossies!

- Services. Indeed, services here in shopping centres are way nicer than the average services you get in Australia. I think when people know they ain't the richest country they are more courteous to others.

Oh just a note to those Malaysians don't know about news here...they are going to get rid of 1 cent coins by April.

More later

Eminence Concert

http://www.eminenceonline.com/2006/index.php?display=anif07ae

A Night in Fantasia 2007: Anime Edition

How's your day?

There was a 20-something blonde chick waiting impatiently at the till at 5.30pm. Yes SEVEN. That's all it took to make my decisive move. The long awaited ultimation and the agony of the wait is over.

Yes I'm moving on and growing to be a better person.
Yes I'm happy and I cherish my past.
Yes I'm grateful for the opportunity and I'm looking forward to it.

Yep. It's a deal. I have a new job.

The decisive turn? Let's not dwell on the negatives and focus on the real deal here. Prayer.

No no no. If it was me praying this would have happened already.

It was someone else's effort. Their (or just her) prayers for me has been the cornerstone for such events. It made me think, well if God answers HER prayers FOR me, how much more will He gives me if I asked for it?

Silly isn't it. Some requires many twists and turns before you finally understand why so many events has to happen before your prayer is answered.

Some, as from this week, were just answered. It's almost the new confidence i've found from the vigil night made myself more at ease to praying - not just more trusting, but trusting the best decision will be done.

To the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The trinity mystery - at times with different purposes but always in unity as one God.

Mystery. Sometimes it's not there to be solved, not yet.

hmr case 1 - let's go

Yes, I cannot wait any longer so i've stuff aacp and just send the hmr case 1 again - yes i really can't be bothered anymore.

Luke 10:38-42

St Aelred of Rievaulx (1110-1167) said in regards to Luke 10:38-42:

"Do not neglect Mary for Martha, nor Martha for Mary.

If you neglect Martha, who will serve Jesus? It brought many to pray and reflect. It brought a constant stream of people to venerate the cross and to pray. It didn't rain and wasn't too cold (by our church's standard). About 20-30 people hung on overnight and music streamed even in the early mornings.

It has been a time I'm much needed. A time to be close to God, a time to truly pray - in voice and in hearing. A time to reconile, a time to mourn the failures and a time to be joyful about the hope of a brighter future. The reason why those few who freaked out were probably because of the side effects commonly experienced by most vaccination. I only had a pain (scale 2/10) on injection site (common ADR, experienced by over 80% of subjects in clinical trial) - it was due to the aluminium-containing precipitant (see its prescribing information). (Yes bye bye guitar!!!)

To my surprise, it's in a suburban area, peaceful, neat and uneventful. Much better living standards than at work! It was in stark contrast to the stigma we give to the prison and the people there. I was surprise to see so many cars there (can't believe how many people work there!) and the lack of signage! Luckily I was able to follow someone who has to go to the reception too.

Anyway, dropped the guitar and turns out that girl who's probably only 2-3 yrs older than me took public transport there (don't know how!). I couldn't answer her question of where's the nearest bus stop.

10 sec later...My life took a turn. I offered her a lift. (well, she obviously has no weapons in her handbag....) Funny, neither of us knows our way. Though I feel bad, she thought I have to drop the guitar to my boyfriend. Her boyfriend has 6 weeks to go. Really, I have lack of common conversations and at times I feel like I should just lie to make her feels like I know what she's going through.

Anyway, dropped her at Quakers Hill Parkway. Could've drop her to Blacktown station, which is where she needs to go...but...I guess I just never think fast enough.

It was a very pleasant surprise to visit the Prison. This is after much reflection to what I witnessed today.

Due to the shortage of doctors, the medical centre has stopped taking patients after about 3pm. This is usual. Yet, one middle aged male became angry and slammed his hand across the reception desk with the sign practically flew out of the door (about 3m across). Further he insulted the receptionist who was actually trying to find out where else would be open.

Now, not ONE SINGLE person in the room did anything. NOT ONE. 17 people. None to defend a helpless person.

But that was the end and the beginning of new life. From the angry, tired parents who did nothing, they became sympathetic, well-mannered and - most importantly - appreciated the service and smile.

Does it HAVE to take a bad incident to bring the good out of us?

coffee

Those who don't know me well....please don't get me to buy or make you coffee. But what about THIS generation??

Look at the mental health report just released (or media release). Over 1 in 10 of us have a mental illness, and over 60% of mental health prescriptions were antidepressants. It's a sad world, we are in the generation where we cannot help each other out but instead we put pressure and stress onto others around us.

The wealthier we are, the less compassion and moral we have. Turns out the reason for their meeting was due to many issues happening in one of them. It makes me think, gee the reason we meet up in these days are typically triggered by some issues in our lives.

Be it happy news or anger management in crisis - we all need to express it out. And food seems to be the perfect excuse to get someone out of their typical schedule. It's almost like we don't hang out unless there's a problem or celebration.

What happened to the days when we just hang out for no reasons? Is life so busy? Only ONE decade ago my timetable was just who's birthdays, what's due soon. Schedules and work that are crossed off regularly. Now with my electronic scheduling, things should be crossed off much easier. Instead, everything keeps having a raincheck.

Although think about it, TWO decades ago I was being fed, sheltered, protected.
